The weather in Florida can change very rapidly and in the high heat of summer, unexpected thunderstorms can pop up randomly, leaving you at risk on the road. At our BMW dealership in Florida, we urge all of our customers to always be prepare for what weather may come throughout your drive. From light drizzles to hail-producing thunderstorms, you can be prepared to handle the roadways safely.

The first thing to consider when it comes to rainy weather is the condition of your tires. Poor tread depth will cause drivers to lose traction on the road especially when the conditions are wet. It is important to have tires routinely evaluated to ensure their condition is safe for driving. Drivers also need to regularly check their air pressure readings in all four tires to make sure they are not over or under inflated. Tires are connecting your vehicle with the roads so they need to always be in tip-top shape to remain safe.

In preparation for unexpected weather, make sure to carry supplies in your vehicle’s truck in case of bad weather. Carry an umbrella but also keep stocked with basic supplies like a change of clothing, roadside flares, bottled water, and non-perishable snacks. Keep a flashlight with extra batteries on hand also for when you are driving at night. If you get stranded due to heavy downpours or due to standing water, you will have what you need until you can drive again.

It’s always wise to keep an eye on the weather and take warnings seriously. Make sure to keep your gas tank filled at all times in case you need to evacuate your location due to impending storms. Waiting too long to leave during a storm warning means you will get stuck in heavy traffic and it will be much more difficult to make your escape. During your drive out of town, beware of the hazards on the road including standing water, fallen trees, and downed power lines.
